چکیده
Las Enfermedades Infecciosas Desatendidas (EID) son un grupo de enfermedades que comparten como característica común los insuficientes recursos destinados por los sistemas de salud para atenderlas. Esta limitación se expresa en diversas formas y conduce a un desconocimiento de su participación en la carga de enfermedad local y global, lo que se agrava pues se asocian a la pobreza, el aislamiento social y geográfico y el estigma social, es decir a la inequidad. Si bien afectan a más de mil millones de personas, existen escasos fármacos para su tratamiento y a diferencia de otras enfermedades no existe interés de la industria farmacéutica para desarrollarlos al tiempo que son escasos los grupos de presión pública que busquen colocarlos y priorizarlos en la agenda sanitaria (1).
